Muscle Workout C
—————-
Barbell Squat 4-6×4 230#x6/230#x6/230#x6/230#x6
Deadlift 4-6×4 185#x2
Romanian Deadlift 4-6×4 185#x4
Calf Raise 4-6×4 0#x10/0#x10/0#x10/0#x10

I couldn’t do deadlifts without my ankle hurting. I think it was the squats that exhausted it. When I was doing the romanian deadlifts it was twitching like crazy. I decided not to push it. If I have the same problem next week, I’ll switch to leg curls and extensions for the deadlift sets.

Unplanned rest week.

First I twisted up my ankle at soccer last week. Nothing bad, but I’ve regressed a bit in rehab. I’ve been babying it, but it’s mostly just a little weaker than before.

Second, I caught a head cold.

I had planned to take a week off the first week of September. I just moved that up two weeks. I’m back at it, but I have to baby the ankle a bit.

The wikipedia is faster than a speeding wumpus…

Hunt the Wumpus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

“There is a version of Hunt the Wumpus found in Google Talk. Add wumpus.game@gmail.com to your buddy list and send it a text message of ‘play’ to play.”

The Wumpus entry in the Wikipedia has already been updated with the Google Talk easter egg. Now that’s the power of a wiki, dammit!

It’s a Nerd Stampede!

Every. Fucking. Blog. I subscribe to, has a post that just went up sometime this evening talking about Google Talk.

Google Talk

Posted in General at 12:08 am

I’m getting really tired of all the crazy rumors lately turning into reality. Though, in this case, it really feels like a viral marketing job. I mean, who has so much time on their hands that they notice new Google sub-domains and then decided to telnet to 5222, just for kicks?

Anyway… to the interesting bits…

From the Google Talk FAQ:

“4. Do you plan to support other real-time communication protocols?

Google Talk supports XMPP with the beta release. We plan to support SIP in a future release. Additionally, we will evaluate other protocols as appropriate, to continue to deliver on our commitment to open communications.

5. What protocols are used for voice calls?

Google Talk supports a custom XMPP-based signaling protocol and peer-to-peer communication mechanism. We will fully document this protocol. In the near future, we plan to support SIP signaling.”

(emphasis mine)

Holy shit. Before long “Google me” will have a totally different meaning.

If you don’t know, SIP is what VOIP phones use in many cases. You know, like the cable company phone systems, or Vonage. And if you can’t wait for Google to implement it, they’ll give you the info you need to interoperate with the way things are now. I can’t wait until Adium has voice support. Hell, I wonder if iChat to iChat over Google Talk’s servers works right now for voice chatting. Probably not.

So, eventually, “Google me” could mean call me. :)

Google, please add video. Please. So I can have something on my mac that will talk to hardware H.323 phones.

Update: Better, yet. Once they enable federation, Gizmo will be able to voice call Google Talk users. That gets me voice calls to Windows schmucks. Rock the fuck on.

Current Goals

Posted in Fitness at 12:16 pm

I had this list and since I was just about to change it, I figured I should publish it so it can’t get changed:

  1. Workout Wednesday and Fridays. I’ve been completely slacking on these days, and cut the amount down. There’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to do it. Mostly need it for the cardio.
  2. 200# bench by 8/31 (completed 8/20/2005)
  3. Use the current bike + trainer at least once a week until 9/15.
  4. 300# Squat by 9/30.

I’m already not quite 100%. I slacked on my workout this past Friday. I was completely and utterly exhausted. I think I needed the rest, so I’m calling a mulligan. That would be the goal I was about to change when I decided to post this.

Workout 2005-08-20 (Mission accomplished)

Muscle Workout B
—————-
Close-grip Incline Barbell Press 6t10t 4-6×4 170#x5/170#x5/170#x4/170#x4
Underhand-grip bent-over row (barbell) 4-6×4 140#x6/140#x6/140#x6/140#x6
Wide-grip Bench Press 3b6b 4-6×4 175#x4/175#x4/175#x4/175#x4

I also attempted a 200+ rep with the wide-grip bench. I failed at 205# (went down a little too far, coudln’t get back up despite much grunting) I managed to get 200# up once, elbows were at 90 degrees, so it’s a little less deep than I go on say 175# reps, first set. In any case, my goal for August is met.

That said, it was after my workout, so I was plenty exhausted from the other sets of bench.

Also, I missed the left pin on the very last rep of close-grip incline bench. I still got it over the pin so I’m counting it as a good rep, but I was too much forward for it to actually catch. Ooops.

I’m somewhat disappointed that close grip didn’t get any stronger. I’ve no clue if wide-grip got stronger, because I lowered the weight. It was the right thing to do, though, I suppose the lack of “improvement” is what drove me to attempt the 200# rep.
